What it is
The Houston Bonsai Society (HBS) is a Houston-metro nonprofit bonsai club founded in 1967. Official About Your HBS: committed to outstanding experiences and expert insights into the art of bonsai for members and the wider community; primary objectives include supporting the local bonsai community at every involvement level and inspiring the next generation of enthusiasts. About Your HBS: proud member of the Lone Star Bonsai Federation, and affiliated with the American Bonsai Society, the National Bonsai Foundation, and Bonsai Clubs International. Primary club identity is the monthly first-Saturday meeting (Board of Directors meeting then Open Session) at the printed Pinemont Drive location, plus membership benefits (Members Only educational materials, free monthly lectures/workshops, visiting-artist workshops, show opportunities, and Friends of HBS partner discounts). It is not a commercial nursery and not a museum tuition class series.
Who it’s for
Houston / greater Houston bonsai enthusiasts — beginners through advanced, ages spanning about 10 into the 70s and 80s per About Your HBS — who want club fellowship, first-Saturday meetings, workshops and study groups, and show opportunities. HBS Upcoming Events: Everyone is welcome; visitors are invited to attend upcoming meetings. Benefits & Membership: visitors are always welcome at monthly meetings. Guests should confirm each date and any venue notes on the live Upcoming Events calendar.
Why it’s listed
This is a first-party club site with a printed Houston meeting street address, published first Saturday meeting cadence (Board 9:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. then Open Session), visitor-welcome language, and membership / events pages — not a Facebook-only club and not a scraped directory card.
- Meeting place / schedule (home + HBS Upcoming Events — checked 2026-09-18): first Saturday of each month. Board of Directors meeting 9:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. (members encouraged to listen in); afterward the HBS Open Session for society news, future-event planning, workshops and classes, and more. Meeting location printed on home, About, Events, and Benefits pages: 5820 Pinemont Drive, Houston, TX, USA. Benefits & Membership: programs are informative, with lectures and demonstrations by experienced presenters and artists; calendar of scheduled meetings and other activities is on Upcoming Events (including a Sept–Oct calendar PDF link on that page).
- Membership (HBS Benefits & Membership — checked 2026-09-18): benefits include monthly meetings, access to the Members Only section (articles, written/video presentations, photos), free lectures and hands-on workshops in the monthly program, workshops/classes with visiting world-class artists, opportunities to display at local/state/regional/national shows, and discounts at select Friends of HBS supporting businesses (examples named on the page: Hurley Johnson’s Timeless Trees Bonsai and Ken Cousino’s Quality Feed & Garden). Membership dues: the Benefits page instructs applicants to download/complete the membership form (HBS Membership e-Form 1.26) and pay the membership fee (form or at the next meeting) for Members Only access and mailing-list enrollment — no public dollar dues amount was printed on the Benefits & Membership HTML page on the check date. Confirm current dues on the live form or at a meeting.
- Club programming / outreach samples (Upcoming Events — checked today; club offerings, not this directory’s Learning category): Japan Festival Houston HBS booth in the Japanese Gardens at Hermann Park (member trees); open workshops/classes for members and anyone interested (bring your own trees and tools); member display / competition day with awards and cash prizes; partner calendar pointer to Timeless Trees Bonsai and Nursery upcoming events for additional Houston-area bonsai workshops.
Meeting times, membership process, partner discounts, and event samples above are what the official pages showed on the check date. They can change. Confirm on the live Benefits & Membership and Upcoming Events pages before joining or traveling.

FAQ
Q: When and where does HBS meet? A: Upcoming Events / home (checked 2026-09-18): first Saturday of each month at 5820 Pinemont Drive, Houston, TX. Board of Directors meeting 9:00–10:00 a.m. (members may listen), then HBS Open Session. Visitors welcome. Confirm topic and any venue notes on https://houstonbonsaisociety.org/hbs-upcoming-events
Q: What are the dues? A: Benefits & Membership (checked 2026-09-18) describes membership benefits and directs applicants to the downloadable membership form and payment of the membership fee, but does not print a public dollar dues amount on that HTML page. Confirm current dues via the live HBS Membership e-Form or at a monthly meeting: https://houstonbonsaisociety.org/hbs-benefits-&-membership
Q: I’m new — where do I start, and is this a Learning listing? A: Attend a first-Saturday Open Session as a visitor (everyone welcome), then complete membership if you want Members Only resources and full workshop access. Club workshops and visiting-artist classes do not make this a Learning listing — HBS stays Clubs.
