What it is

The Nebraska Bonsai Society is a bonsai club for Nebraska and nearby areas that meets in Omaha and Lincoln. Its site says it “is dedicated to advancing the art of bonsai throughout the state of Nebraska and surrounding areas” and that its mission is “to promote and inspire enjoyment in the study of bonsai through practice, education and camaraderie.” The About page says it was founded in 2009 and also records a founding meeting on March 28, 2010.

Who it’s for

Beginners and experienced growers in eastern Nebraska, including Omaha, Lincoln and the surrounding region. The home page says you can “stop by one of our meetings with no charge to meet us” before joining, and that you don’t have to be a member to come to events.

Why it’s listed

It is a real club with its own website, published dues, a named board, a regular meeting pattern and a calendar of past events. The site was checked on 2026-10-19:

  • Regular meetings: “generally occur on the third Sunday of each month from 1 – 5 pm, with locations alternating between Lincoln and Omaha.” Meetings start with a seminar or demonstration and end with a study group that opens with a group critique of at least one tree. Mentors are available at every meeting.
  • Novice workshop: a low-cost workshop each year that includes a tree, pot and soil; the novice class meets three times during the growing season.
  • Fall Exhibit: the club’s showcase is its Fall Exhibit with the Japanese Ambience Festival at Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha.
  • Other programs: at least two member workshops a year, at least one visiting bonsai artist weekend (demo, lecture and workshop), a trip to the Midwest Bonsai Society show in Chicago, collecting trips, raffles and auctions, and use of club copper and aluminum wire at meetings.
  • Recent events on the club calendar: a study-group meeting with Gilbert Cantu (Little Jade Bonsai) on dwarf jade, Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Victor E. Anderson Library, 3635 Touzalin Ave., Lincoln; an Art of Bonsai talk at Baright Public Library, Ralston, June 18; and a table at the Cactus & Succulent show at Mulhall’s, Omaha, June 20.
  • Membership: $30 per year individual or $40 household, paid through PayPal on the Membership page, with a membership application and bylaws.
  • Board: President Kevin Littleman, Treasurer David Klein, Marketing & Communications Chair Jake Shama, Events Chair Justin Limoges, Technology/Social Media Chair Christian Correa, and Directors Patrick O’Neal and Nila Roberts (Vice President vacant).
