Bella Bonsai Nursery

Category: Nurseries Also called: Bella Bonsai; Bella Bonsai Nursery (Waynesboro, VA); bellabonsai.com Last checked: 2026-10-12

What it is

Bella Bonsai Nursery is a certified bonsai and pre-bonsai nursery in Waynesboro, Virginia, with an official online store at bellabonsai.com. The site gives its address as 144 Huntington Place, Waynesboro, VA 22980. The About page says the nursery “began on three acres of beautiful countryside and is a fully certified nursery,” and that it offers “more than 5,000 bonsai and pre-bonsai trees.” The owner is Larry Morton, who describes a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture, years at Behnkes’ and Baucom’s nurseries, and founding Preferred Trees Nursery, a 100-acre tree nursery outside Charlotte, before opening Bella Bonsai with Deborah Morton in retirement. He is also the author of the book Modern Bonsai Practice, sold on the site. It is not a membership club and not a botanic-garden class desk.

Who it’s for

Bonsai growers who want outdoor temperate stock (maples, junipers, azaleas, boxwood, elms, flowering shrubs) as either pre-bonsai or finished specimen trees, and who are comfortable buying online with UPS delivery. Shenandoah Valley and central Virginia growers can visit the nursery Wednesday to Saturday. People looking for a cheap indoor gift tree or a ticketed class should check other Nurseries or Learning listings.

Why it’s listed

This is a first-party grower storefront. The official Shopify store lists individual trees with dollar prices and Add to Cart, and the site prints a street address, opening hours, a phone/text number, a written ordering process, a shipping policy and a written plant warranty. It is not a directory card, not an Amazon storefront and not supplies-only.

Nursery identity (Home, About Us and Contact pages, checked 2026-10-12): 144 Huntington Place, Waynesboro, VA 22980; text or call 704-545-9058; open Wednesday to Saturday, 9 AM–5 PM, appointments welcome; three acres; “fully certified nursery”; more than 5,000 bonsai and pre-bonsai trees.
Official shop sample prices (product pages, checked 2026-10-12):
- Schefflera arboricola Bonsai $100
- Trident Maple Bonsai Tree $200
- Shimpaku Juniper Bonsai $350
- Seven Son Flower Bonsai Tree $850
- Japanese Maple Bonsai Tree JM12 $3,500
Shop size: the Shop All Bonsai collection showed 102 products on the check date. Many older listings are marked sold out, and the collection carries a banner: “We are currently updating our product images. Please call or email to request images and info on specific trees.”
Two ways to order (Online Order Process page): Pre-bonsai listings represent a size, species and price range; after you order, the owner personally selects two trees and texts photos, and you choose one, ask for another pair, or cancel for a full refund. Specimen trees carry a unique stock code and “what you see is what you receive.”
Shipping (Shipping Policy page): trees ship by UPS on Mondays and Tuesdays so they do not sit in a box over a weekend; shipping may be delayed for extreme weather. No shipping to APO/FPO, P.O. boxes, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands or internationally.
Warranty (Refund policy page): plants are warranted true to name, apparently free of dangerous insects and diseases, and in good living condition when handed to the carrier. The remedy is replacement at Bella Bonsai’s discretion, and claims must be made in writing within ten days of shipment.

Stock and prices above are what the official pages showed on the check date. They change. Check the live product page before treating any figure as fixed.

Notes

Category is Nurseries. Bella grows and sells priced trees through its own cart.
Image banner: the shop says product images are being updated and asks buyers to call or email for current images. The pre-bonsai process (two texted photos before shipping) and exact-tree specimen photos address this, but check before buying.
Sold-out listings: many older product pages remain online marked sold out. The prices above come only from listings showing as available on the check date.
Phone area code: the listed number (704) is a Charlotte-area code, matching the owner’s North Carolina background. It is printed on every page as the nursery’s number.
Founding year not stated: the site does not give an opening year, so this card does not print one.
Prior hold: Bella was held on Thu Oct 1 because its Online Order Process page returned 404 and the image banner was up. On 2026-10-12 the order-process page returns 200 with full content; the banner remains (see above).
Geographic spread: Waynesboro VA is the plaza’s first Virginia nursery. The only other Virginia card is the Learning listing wolf-trap-nursery-create-your-own-bonsai-workshop (Vienna, VA), a different brand, domain and category. It stays clear of Fri TX / IA / AZ, Thu MO / KY / UT and Wed OR / GA / RI.
Listing image: the site has no image logo (the header is text), so the card uses the site’s own og:image (bellabonsai.com/cdn/shop/files/sm.jpg, a four-panel category banner), converted to PNG, 1024×358, saved beside this file as bella-bonsai-nursery-logo.png.

No Bonsai Plaza contact, purchase, booking, or publication action was taken.
