Meehan's Miniatures

What it is

Meehan’s Miniatures is a family-owned bonsai and rare-plant nursery in Rohrersville, Maryland, with an official online shop at meehansminiatures.com. The official About page says Hugh and Martha Meehan started it in 1976. It is a state-licensed Maryland nursery that specializes in bonsai and rare plant materials and grows about 75% of its nursery stock onsite. That stock includes finished bonsai, bonsai starter plants, and accent plants, with a focus on dwarf and miniature varieties. The official shop shows dollar prices for indoor tropical and outdoor temperate starter material, accent plants, and pots. It is not a membership club and not a museum class series.

Who it’s for

Mid-Atlantic and East Coast hobbyists, collectors, and beginners who want homegrown bonsai starter stock and dwarf or miniature cultivars at low printed prices. It also suits DC / Baltimore day-trippers (About: roughly an hour from either city) who want to walk the nursery. The Visit page says larger plants and limited-stock items are available at the nursery that are not listed in the online catalog. Shoppers on the West Coast and in some Mountain states should check the shipping restrictions below first.

Why it’s listed

This is a first-party grower-nursery site. It prints a street address, phone number, and weekly hours in every page footer, and its official shop shows on-page dollar prices. It is not a scraped directory card and not an Amazon storefront. (This ship: Stone Lantern held as an alternate. It prints tree prices, but its identity is supplies-first, with tools, books, wire, and pots, which blurs the Nursery category. Meehan’s is a clear-cut grower.)

• Address / hours / contact (site footer + Visit, checked 2026-09-25): 4925 Woodstock Lane, Rohrersville, MD 21779, USA; phone 301-432-2965; open Tuesday–Saturday, 10am–3pm; email [email protected]. Weather closings are posted on Instagram and Facebook. Visit: Woodstock Lane runs parallel to Route 67, and the nursery is on the east side, less than 1/4 mile from Park Hall Road.
• Grower identity (About + Classes page, checked today): started by Hugh and Martha Meehan in 1976. The first nursery was in their Wheaton backyard, and they bought a Boonsboro, MD property in 1979 before moving to the current Rohrersville site. The nursery propagates and grows 75% of its stock onsite, and a care guide comes with every purchase.
• Official shop sample prices (category pages, checked 2026-09-25):
  • Outdoor Sunny: Juniperus procumbens nana 4″ round pot $14.95; Juniperus chinensis “San Jose” $45.00.
  • Outdoor Part Sun: Acer palmatum 3″/4″ pots $5.95; Spirea alpina 4″ $14.95; Rhododendron PJM compacta 4″ $19.95; Poncirus ‘Flying Dragon’ 6″ $30.00.
  • Indoor Sunny: Portulacaria afra 3.5″ $5.95; Ficus salicaria 3″ & 4″ $6.50; Olea europaea 4.5″ $14.95; Calliandra tweedii 6″ $29.95.
  • Outdoor Accent: several 2.25″ accent plants (Acorus, Equisetum, Sedum) at $3.50 each.
  • Pots: Mame Pots $2.95.
  • The Outdoor Finished Bonsai gallery showed no products at check. Stock and prices change, so confirm the live SKU.
• Ordering / shipping (Ordering Info + Payment & Shipping, checked today): $25.00 minimum order (Ordering Info says an extra $6.00 fee applies below that); handling fee $25.00. Tree Gallery trees carry an extra shipping fee set on the shipping day. UPS is the primary shipper, and orders are filled within about two weeks in the growing season. Payment & Shipping says the nursery is not accepting orders from CA, OR, WA, ID, AZ, NV, and the home page also lists Montana as a state it cannot ship plants to.
• Nursery sale notice on home page at check: “25% off almost everything sale at the nursery, begins 9/5/26”. This applies to walk-in purchases and excludes classes, online purchases, wholesale, refined trees, tools, and soil. It is a time-limited promo, so do not treat it as standing pricing.

Hours, stock, shipping rules, and prices above are what the official pages showed on the check date. They can change. Check the live product card before treating any figure as fixed. The nursery’s in-house Bonsai Classes / Workshops 2026 (taught by Martha Meehan) are nursery programming, not this directory’s Learning category.

FAQ

Q: Where is Meehan’s Miniatures, and when is it open?
A: The site footer (checked 2026-09-25) lists 4925 Woodstock Lane, Rohrersville, MD 21779, phone 301-432-2965, open Tuesday–Saturday 10am–3pm. Weather closings are posted on Instagram and Facebook.

Q: What shop prices were printed on official pages today?
A: Samples checked 2026-09-25 range from 2.25″ accent plants at $3.50 and 3″–4″ starters (Japanese maple, Portulacaria, Ficus salicaria) at about $5.95–$6.50, up to Juniperus chinensis “San Jose” at $45.00. Online orders have a $25.00 minimum plus a $25.00 handling fee. Confirm the live SKU, because prices and stock change.

Q: Do they ship everywhere, and do their classes make this a Learning listing?
A: No on both. Payment & Shipping lists no orders from CA, OR, WA, ID, AZ, NV, and the home page adds Montana. Bonsai Plaza’s category rule means a nursery’s in-house workshops do not move the card into Learning. Meehan’s Miniatures stays Nurseries.
